Italy: State flexibility and fishing halt are important

"We are launching a regulation that will last seven years, it would be wise to foresee that this measure remains as one of the possibilities that can be used by State members". This declared Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies, Mario Catania, attending the Eu Council of Ministers of agriculture and fisheries in Brussels.
“I confirm my positive evaluation of the Eu Commission’s proposal, both regarding the predicted budget, that seems to me to be satisfactory, and in general for the range of the measures it contains.”
This declared Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies, Mario Catania, attending the Eu Council of Ministers of agriculture and fisheries in Brussels. In the second working day, the Council was focused on the regulation proposal for the reform of the European Fund for the Eu's Maritime and Fisheries Policies.
“I believe – Catania added – that it is important to allow State members the biggest flexibility in the choice of measures, also in the course of time. I mean that we should be flexible on the program changes that the State might ask in the 7 years of the Fund’s duration. As for the request made in merit of the percentage regarding the data collecting and control, respectively of 6 and 8 per cent of the whole Fund’s endowment, I can affirm that I completely agree and accept it”.
“For Italy – Minister Catania underlined – the temporary fishing halt is particularly important. On the base of the June agreement on the CFP, this measure is foreseen in the package of measures that result to be in line with the conservation measures requested. Thus, I would like to ask that also in the regulation concerning the Fund, the financing of this measure is kept.”
“Finally – Catania concluded – I would like to speak about the aids for the demolition of vessels. Someone says that it is a measure tied with the past and this is partially true. However, I believe that in some situations it can still have a particular role.
